What is Losartan?
Losartan is used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and to reduce the risk of a stroke. It may be used alone or in combination with other agents.
Losartan is in a class of drugs called angiotensin II receptor antagonists. These type of medications work by preventing the constriction (narrowing) of blood vessels (veins and arteries).
Losartan was the first angiotensin II receptor antagonist to be marketed. It is currently marketed by Merck & Co. under the brand name Cozaar®.
